How to Stay Positive While Beating Procrastination

Do you find it hard to focus on one task? Do you enthusiastically start a project but then for some reason lose interest in it and abandon the whole idea before it is accomplished? Do you have lots of great plans but can’t find the motivation to put them all into action?

Then you are one of the many people who are guilty of falling into the habit of procrastination. Procrastination is a bad habit that prevents people from achieving their full potential, from doing excellent things, from attaining true happiness and self fulfillment. It can be said that procrastination robs people’s dreams and happiness.

So we all need to fight and combat this nasty habit. Of course, like all bad habits, avoiding procrastination is not easy. It needs lots of positive attitude and a change in one’s mindset. The following may help:

Procrastination is not part of human nature. Change the belief that procrastination is an innate trait. Yes many people are guilty of procrastination we are not born with it. By instinct, humans strive for excellence and for getting things done.

Procrastination doesn’t help. Some people postpone work because they feel a short break can make them more efficient later. Well, there is a difference from taking a break when one has done considerable much work from getting breaks when one is yet to accomplish anything. Also, one needs to carefully check if the delay is becoming more frequent than the actual work. And keep this in mind: Delaying one’s task doesn’t make it easier. It is better to do the difficult tasks first then take break later.

Believe in yourself. The power of positive thinking can be applied in the fight against laziness and procrastination. Believe that you can win the battle against procrastination. Imagine yourself accomplishing great things and being the best you can be.

So let us all fight procrastination and avoid the fate of the man depicted in this anonymous quote:

“He slept beneath the moon
He basked beneath the sun
He lived a life of going to do
and died with nothing done.”
