Movie/TV Series Recommendations: Awesome Love Stories With Unique Plots

Who doesn’t like a good love story? Tales circling around the extraordinary connection between individuals have enduring appeal, no matter how young or old you are. With thousand of love stories out there, I am sure you are familiar with the formula that makes it work.

A rich guy falling for a sweet yet poor maiden. Or a helpless lady to be saved by a knight in shining armor. Star-crossed lovers or soulmates separated by unfortunate circumstances. These are some of the typical scenarios that can send many of us swooning with delight or cry with sorrow.

But then once in a while, you can come across love stories that seem to steer away from the usual formula. These stories may strike you as weird yet may have a surprising effect once you give it a try. Strangely, you may be surprised by how beautiful and touching these love stories can be. The following are a few examples:

It’s Complicated

Cheating issues among couples especially for the married ones are common themes in movies. Yet how often do you see a divorced couple getting back together again? Yes it very seldom but this setting was beautifully presented in the movie, ‘It’s Complicated.’ Admit it, when you are divorced or separated, the idea of getting back to your ex seems terrifying. Yet this story is both touching and lovely.

 For quite a heavy theme, the scenes are very pleasing and the storytelling, very light. It surely helps that it stars talented and legendary actors such as Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin. This movie can be a real tear-jerker for anyone who has experienced the pain of going through a divorce. In the end, it leaves viewers with a pleasant realization that love

Marriage Story

This gem starring Scarlett Johansson is another movie that shows how complicated a marriage can be.  Although romantic break-ups are common movie themes, this one is different because it tackles divorce in a very realistic manner. It is amazing to see a movie that tackles the end of a marriage so casually yet surprisingly real.

The movie highlights the pain of ending a relationship without the need for  too many overly dramatic or explosive scenes. Still, viewers can feel the inner emotional turmoil that comes with divorce or separation, thanks to the brilliant performances of the actors. It shows the deep bond that comes with marriage that makes the divorce process extremely difficult and confusing; it is almost like losing a body part.

Our Souls at Night

Will you be thrilled with the idea of two senior citizens hooking up? Well, this seems to be the theme in this movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. It shows the beauty of finding love in the most unexpected places and how it can grow in the most unusual circumstances.  The movie gives hope that love is everywhere if you just learn to open your heart.

Flipped

Experience the joys and agony of young love in this story that will make you believe in true and pure love once again. Flipped, a movie based on the 2001 novel by Van Draanen is a breath of fresh air from love stories nowadays with lewd scenes and scandalous concepts. You will find the characters played by Madeline Carroll and Callan McAuliffe endearing.  In a cute narration-style storytelling, you will feel the connection of the characters for each other.

The End of the F***ing World

This movie can be a bit of a shocker for adults and especially parents. With two teenagers, both with deep mental and emotional issues on the run, you may feel like putting up a flashing PG sign beside the movie title. It is just that the two main characters start out as the worst model for teens.
