Christmas Diary – December 22, 1999

Dear Christmas Diary,

Today is my last day of being a full-timer and I am a bit sad about it. I think I am going to miss it. Anyway, today is a shoplifter’s exposure day for me. I was about to eat lunch when a group of teen girls approached me to say that someone left a wallet. When I opened the wallet, it was full of identification cards but no money side. Obviously, someone snatched it, took the money inside, and discarded the wallet. I thanked the girls and surrendered the lost wallet to the guard on duty. I felt sorry for the owner of the wallet who must be frantically looking for it. I took a good look at the people in the mall and wonder who among them are there to shop and who are there to steal. 

 

And then before when I went home, my co-worker instructed me to watch a girl while she chooses shoes to buy. I was shocked when I saw her peel the tag price off an item and replace it with a new tag price with a much lower price. I felt a bit scared but I followed her until she is near the cashier area. It was then when I approached her and said in a calm voice but serious look if I could check the price of the item she is about to buy. I noticed that she was also a bit hesitant and frightened. As she handed the item to me, I told her that she is doing the wrong thing. Well, she never replied but just walked away. Well, Christmas season is also a season for scammers and shoplifters.
